MV-Wissenschaft, Softcover, 152 SeitenA Festschrift in Honour of Michael Hess on the Occasion of his 60th BirthdayHrsg.: Simon Clematide, Manfred Klenner, Martin Volk„Searching Answers“ may sound like a general theme which fits every scientist’s vita, but in the case of Prof. Dr. Michael Hess it describes his very research focus: searching answers in large text collections. The goal was (and still is) to spot information with a much higher precision than a typical Internet search engine by computing a deeper knowledge representation of the texts. This Festschrift is a tribute to Prof. Hess’ achievements by colleagues and members of his research team, former and current. The contributions address specific topics in his research area as e.g. new methods in question answering, multilingual information retrieval, description logics, ontologies, and the semantic web. They also deal with related issues in morphological analysis and generation, controlled natural language, anaphora resolution, relation extraction through parsing, and toponym classification. The articles include central language technology notions such as ambiguity resolution and evaluation techniques. Text genres as diverse as legal texts, mountain expedition reports, and biomedical literature are discussed.
